Voting Question: In need of an honest evaluation of my chances at admission?

In need of a reasonable evaluation of my chances at several top schools Since this seems to the preeminent center of college discussion online, I'd love to hear an honest and reasonable assessment of my likelihood of admission at the following schools: Duke, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, University of VA Here's everything I can offer in the way of information: I just began my senior year at Plant High School in Tampa, FL (a hyper-competitive public school). I'm a white male from a family reeling from the effects of our economic downturn (income drastically below $30,000/yr at this point) Though I'm still undecided concerning a major, I'm interested in eventually pursuing a career as an attorney. My top choices for a college major right now are economics, psychology, political science, or perhaps a branch of engineering (pending my experience with Calculus/Physics) My unweighted GPA stands at 4.0 (weighted 5.72, though I hear this is practically useless to the admissions office). I've taken the SAT I twice, with a superscore of 1530/1600, or 2300/2400 (Math-730, Reading-800, Writing-770). I've also taken 2 SAT IIs, Chemistry and US History, on which I scored a 760 and 800, respectively. On my Junior PSAT I scored a 207, and have been commended by the NMSQ. I have not taken the ACT. I've been in all honors courses, and additionally have completed 5 AP courses between my sophomore and junior years. Names and exam scores follow: World History-5 US History-5 Chemistry-5 Psychology-5 English Language and Composition-5 My senior schedule includes 5 more AP classes: Macro Economics, Micro Economics, Calculus BC, Physics B, English Literature, Comparative Government. I've also enrolled in my 4th year of Spanish. I'm also a member of several national and school academic honor societies, including Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society (serve as Historian), Social Studies Honor Society (serve as President), I Dare You (school society for 6 consecutive quarters of all As), Science Honor Society, and Beta Honor Club. As for extracurriculars, I've sadly participated in no athletic or musical programs while in high school (though I do enjoy basketball/baseball/table tennis recreationally, and am considering college participation for each at some level) However, I've been fervently involved in our chapter of the Florida Youth in Government Program, and have attended 2 State Conferences in Tallahassee. I also served as VP of Legislation during my junior year. Strangely, I've also discovered an interest in our drama program as of Junior year, participating in 2 school productions, 1 competitive production at USF, and 1 individual drama competition at Wharton High School. I've joined our school's Drama Club, and, as mentioned earlier, have recently been inducted into the Thespians Honor Society. Oh, and my peers awarded my performances with 3 Henry distinctions. Finally, and perhaps less significantly, I attended several math competitions during my freshmen year. Though I always managed to miss the top individual rankings, I helped our school's geometry team to several top finishes in the team rounds. And finally, I have logged around 111 or so community service hours. Armed with the above, what would you say the odds look like for admission to the aforementioned universities? (keep in mind that I will in all likelihood need a good amount of financial aid or scholarship grants) Also, I welcome all other college recommendations that could be offered. I'm still far from fixated on any particular choice. Thanks Thats exactly how I feared this question would be received. And granted, if I were looking on as well, I'd probably think the same thing. But I'm sincerely just trying to see how unbiased third parties view my situation. I do apologize for coming off this way; I promise it is not my intention. I've just been reading responses to similar posts on admission to many of these same schools, and individuals with similarly strong circumstances have been met with deflating answers. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Resolved Question: why is Nick bollettieri the benchmark for tennis Academies?

It seems that a good majority of top players went to his academy in Florida for instructions. I'm a parent who wants my kid to play tennis. Can I hear any good reasons why I should send my kid to Mr. Bollitieri in Florida, instead of Mr. Mcenroe In New York?

Voting Question: Can I use a composite stick on a smooth tennis court without destroying the blade?

I live in Florida so there's nowhere nearby for me to play ice hockey, therefore in my case I have, a tenniscourt, several cheap $20 wood sticks and a bag full of regulation pucks, the abs blades seem to last up to 5 months but I've never used composite and my sister wanted to get me one for my birthday, I do have a skillpad btw

Resolved Question: Is this a fake friend?

During tenth grade I met who I thought was my best friend. We would have math class together and always talk. He even invited me to his house. During my junior year it was the same thing. He even joined the tennis team because I was on it. But what I found odd was he would never pick up his phone or check his e-mail if I called or e-mailed him. If he did pick up his phone, he would always have an excuse and end the call short. Since now that school was over, I thought we would be able to hang out. I went to Florida for a week and told him I wold be gone for a week. While I was there I got a call from him. But when I tried to call back he wouldn't pick up. After I came back from Florida I called him after two days and he finally picked up. He told me he had to go to the doctor, isn't that a coincidence? Then I was fed up trying to call him and keep in contact with him. So i decided I wouldn't call him anymore. It's already been one month and he still hasn't called me back and it's summer vacation time. I decided I wouldn't call him ever again or talk to him in school. It's sad, I thought I finally found someone I could call a best friend, but I guess I was wrong.

Resolved Question: Health/Sport related question...? (Please Help!)?

This is mainly a health related question pertaining to me but if someone who knows a little something about sports could answer, it would help me a lot. I am 13 years old (I am a girl) and really overweight. I am 196 pounds and I am 5 feet 8 inches. I also have a lot of health issues that are being caused by my weight problem. I have High Blood Pressure, a bad neck problem, and I get heat exhaustion terribly easy. So it is really important that I start loosing weight. But I am kinda in a sticky situation...I have no access for getting exercise. But at first I tried walking around in my neighborhood but living in Florida and going out to walk/run was not a good idea. (I had 3 heat strokes in this sun!) And my mom was not happy about me going around in the neighborhood alone. So next, I tired to work out in my home. We are slap broke so I have no equipment. But I tired a bunch of cardiovascular and muscle work outs. Well, it didn't last long...I could only do it for about 15 minutes before passing out or getting so bored I wished I would pass out (that was a joke, I am being facetious). So now I am here. I know it is imperative that I loose weight or else my health could get even worse. And since I am starting High School in 2 weeks, I thought it would be a good idea if I joined a sports club in my school. I have never really done sports so I don't know which sport I should try. I don't have many choices because my health really is bad. (Just writing it all down in this question, makes me realize it even more.) So I need a sport that won't affect my previous health conditions. But I really need to join one or else my health is just going to get worse. Any ideas? Here is the sports available to me: Basketball, Cross Country, Tennis, Golf, Softball, Track, Cheerleading, Soccer, Swimming&Diving, Volleyball, and Dance team. I am not good at running, or softball, so those are kinda out of the question. PLEASE HELP!!! I really want to loose weight. I NEED to. So I immediately started eating healthier and cut my salt intake. I only get salt that comes naturally in foods and I rarely ever eat bad food. But I haven't lost a pound. I really need an exercise that will motivate me and push me to get this weight off. Being my size brings me to tears. I have not always been this way. I starting gaining weight rapidly after some traumatic events in my life and I could not get it off.

Voting Question: Chances at my college options?

Hi, I am going into the 11th grade but already thinking on my college options and doing research but Im really worry about my chances. female, hispanic GPA - I cant exaclty tell but its around 3.80 my school doesnt rank havent taken the SAT yet but expect around a 2000 + ACT except around a 31 Ecs- I have a big problem in this because i moved to the US a few months ago and my old private school didnt have any clubs/sports/honors classes. but right now i am and planning - tennis team - basketball team - key club -national honor society - spanish honor society -green club -fellowship of christian athletes - by the time i reach 1st semester senior year i`ll have over 200 comm service hours -boys and girls club of america volunteer -internship at a biomedical research lab in puerto rico. ( maybe ) classes: - 11th grade ap biology, ap us history, ap language and ap spanish, chemistry honors im pretty sure that in senior year ap chemistry,ap physics b, ap literature, ap european history, ap pshychology. i had a 4.0 gpa but that changed when i moved because my english skills werent the best and the adjustment was hard. Im really worry because my old school didnt have any clubs nor honors/ap classes just regular classes. just a volleyball team after a decade without one. i was a member of the team. I was in the honor roll in there. Becase my old school didnt offer me opportunities is that going to effect my chances? my eyes are on: =U of Iowa = U of Florida =Emory University =Uof Michigan or Michgan State =Florida State University =Boston College =Purdue University =Case Western =Wake Forest University =University of Miami =University of Maine,Oklahoma and Colorado. =College of Holy Cross Please be honest and chance me including that my freshmen and half sophomore year were with limited opportunities to excel. Excluding that when I was in the 2nd semester of sophomore year my new high school didnt let me be in any clubs because it was half year so basically im starting everything now. I now I can do this just be completely honest with each chance at each school Thanks I really appreciate it!!!

Resolved Question: where should i go to college? EAST COAST COLLEGES ONLY! reward! super confused?

I'm a senior in high school, and I really have no idea where I want to go to college. Only leads are Towson, Pittsburgh and American Academy of the Dramatic Arts. I got a 1688 on SATS first time around and I know I can bring it up. I also have a 2.9 GPA my junior year, which sucks i know but i think i can get easily a 4.0 this coming year. I love seasons, so somewhere that will get some snow maybe? And then also will get spring... aka not florida? I also can't have it over $30,000 per year. I play golf, manage tennis and do theater. Also I have a lot of service hours. Not sure if that helps at all haha but please! I just want ideas. Pittsburgh is my dream school but i'm not sure if i can get in there... PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

Voting Question: Do I have a shot of getting into Notre Dame?

I want to know if I even have a chance of getting into Notre Dame University. Please be honest and tell me if not what I would need to improve on or add. I'm going to be a senior in high school. 3.9 unweighted GPA 2 AP classes (so far) 5 Dual Enrollment Classes (so far) SAT: 1440 (exclude writing) Softball 3 years Tennis 1 year FBLA junior year, Environment Club junior year, Prom committee junior year, Best buddies junior year. National Honors Society Student Government 150 community service hours Hispanic Female Attends a public school in Florida ** Also, I was curious about how my dual enrollment classes would transfer over or if they even would transfer because it's out of state. Also, would the dual enrollment classes carry the same weight as AP classes in Indiana they do in Florida; just curious to see how dual enrollment would affect my acceptance rate. Thank you so much! 3 hours ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details And I've also had a part time job for a little over a year now so I'm not sure if that affects anything. Also, my senior year I plan to take 2 more AP classes along with 4 more dual enrollment classes. 2 hours ago
