Resolved Question: What are some good locations in Florida that are affordable & beautiful? Forest themed & 175 guests.?
We are looking for an affordable and beautiful location in Florida to get married. We have an enchanted forest theme and approximately 175 guests. Our budget for the entire wedding is $30,000.
We have already looked at Disney and Vizcaya castle but they are way too expensive. All of the places I like are extremely expensive.
Ideally, we would like a place to rent out and have our guests stay over night. I've considered renting out a bed and breakfast, a castle or a small hotel/resort. Guests would pay for their own rooms.
Nothing beach-related please.

Voting Question: Best B&Bs/shopping/food/desserts /everything fun along Interstate 10 from FL-CA?
I'll be driving from SOUTH florida (Fort Myers) to southern California (Loma Linda). I'll be taking interstate 10 the entire way, so I want to know from EXPERIENCE what the best things are along that route. We're not touristy people, but enjoy a good attraction - we like quaint towns with history and personable people. We like GOOD FOOD -- love Italian food, good Mexican, and we are BIG COFFEE DRINKERS. Love cafes, love chocolate desserts.
Okay, from all of that.
Please let me know where we should stop! I'm going to try to space it out to figure out which towns we will stop in for the evening, so I'd like input on good Bed and Breakfasts or possibly hotels (though B&Bs are preferred if priced right).
Thank you so much!
Pink - you think I can survive on water from south florida, to alabama, mississippi, louisiana, texas, new mexico, arizona, and california? I don't think that's a good idea. I'm thin enough - don't need to die before I reach CA!

Resolved Question: Looking for a good hotel in Florida Keys or Key West...?
I am trying to plan a trip for me, my husband, and 15 year old daughter during her school vacation this coming March, and was thinking about going to somewhere in the Florida Keys. I have heard many good things about Key West, but I would particularly like to go somewhere with a good beach, preferably not too crowded and in a somewhat quieter area. Does anyone know of a really good hotel/resort or bed and breakfast in the area, near enough to restaurants and other things to do? We are not looking to pay more than $350 a night for a hotel room. Thanks for any help!

Voting Question: What are some of your favorite Christmas memories?
(12/2009) I only want positive answers. For the past few years Christmases for me have just felt so different . . . maybe it's because I'm getting older. I'll be 21 next spring. But what are your favorite childhood Christmas memories? Mine are me and my older sister waking up on Christmas morning and trying to get my parents out of bed. We would go to my Grandparents' house and all my aunts and uncles and little cousins would be there and we'd have a big breakfast and there would be a huge mountain of presents in the living room. At my grandma's, we used to bake cookies with my aunt and decorate the tree and sing carols. They had these musical lights on the tree, and on the porch door there was a Santa that would go "ho ho ho, Merry Christmas" and play Jingle Bells every time you opened the door, and there was a singing Santa holding a list that would sing "Santa Clause is coming to town" when you clapped. My dad used to be a fireman so at the fire station there would be a kids Christmas party and we'd get to see Santa Clause. And I used to get so excited when we would put up our tree. I would wait and wait for my dad to finally go down in the cellar and bring up all the boxes. Christmases just aren't the same anymore. Yeah we still bake cookies and watch the specials on TV and decorate, but at my house it's always me who does the tree, lights, and everything because no one in my family has time. At least I found singing lights at Walgreens and I try to keep that old spirit alive. It's just not the same anymore because both my Grandparents are dead and we're all older now and they moved out of their old house years ago.
I guess out of all that I said my favorite memory would be Christmas at my Grandma's house. I'll never forget when I was 5 1/2, I got this one gift and I was so excited I was jumping up and down. My aunt videoed it, lol. Also on Christmas eve my Uncle would pretend Rudolph was outside and he would go outside with a red light and shine it in the window and all of us kids went nuts. Also in 2001 my aunt who lives in Florida surprised us on Christmas Eve by coming home. I came downstairs and there she was. At least most of my childhood Christmases with Grandma and Grandpa are forever preserved on video and I can watch them anytime.
Christmas isn't all about presents I know. It's about our Lord Jesus Christ and being together as a family. I hope one day I become a dad and I can have the same Christmases all over again with my kids.

Resolved Question: What do you think of my story so far?
Kara McAlister was your average 13-year-old girl. She had locks of wispy, golden hair that fell at her shoulders. She had aqua blue braces, and had a desire to fit in. She wished for designer clothing and she played sports with her peers. She went to a public school; she had a family, a family of a mom, a dad, a sister and a brother. Kara’s life was perfect until fantasy met reality.
It was a perfect Sunday morning in November. The sun was shining and the Florida heat beamed down on her shoulders. Kara walked down the stairs lazily at 10:00 a.m. and greeted her sister, Gracie Rose and her brother Owen. Owen was 9-years-old and had short brown hockey hair. He was much more mature than the other kids in his grade therefore he had great respect from his classmates that looked up to him. Gracie Rose was 2-years-old and was a spitting image of Kara. She laughed loudly and adored life like no other child. She wore dresses and sang songs, frolicked in the sun and beach bathed.
Kara lifted Gracie Rose into her highchair and gave her a handful of dry cereal. Kara joined her mother and father at the dining table and Owen tagged along behind. Mitch, Kara’s father, was reading the Whittaker Times, the Sunday newspaper. Everyone was enjoying their breakfast when Mitch’s jaw fell. Lacey, Kara’s mother, tapped Mitch on the shoulder and asked impatiently, “What’s wrong, dear?” Mitch couldn’t move. Kara snatched the newspaper out of his hands and set it on the table. “Dad, why do you have that blank look on your face?” asked Kara.
Mitch couldn’t do anything but point at the Whittaker Times lying in front of Kara. Kara curiously skimmed the article Mitch was reading and she began to laugh, “Dad, do you seriously believe this bologna?”
Mitch nodded. The article that he was reading said that fantasy would become reality. An unidentified object was steering clear towards Earth at an outrageous speed and that we only had days to live. Kara shook her head in disbelief. Lacey even chuckled a bit at how much Mitch had believed the lie.
Mitch rose from the table and cleared his plate. He then returned to the table to find Lacey and Kara laughing hysterically at his belief. “Stop!” Mitch cried. Gracie Rose started crying. “It’s all true. All of it. The Earth is ending and we only have one day left to live,” Mitch explained.
“But--,” Kara began. “No, listen to me,” Mitch interrupted, “When I was 9 your grandfather, a space engineer, told me everything he knew about the future. He told me everything I know today. He told me the next time to look for a comet, and everything he told me has come true. He even told me his secret he wouldn’t share with anyone else. He knew the day that the world would end. He trusted me with his secret and now they’ve predicted it.” He kissed Gracie Rose on her forehead and walked out of the room.
Lacey shook her head no. Kara shook it off and walked upstairs. When Kara arrived at her room she picked up her pinkish, red cell phone and gave her best friend Adam a call. “Hey, Kara!” Adam said once he answered the phone, “What’s up?”
“Oh, not much. Want to hang out today?” Kara answered.
“Yeah, sounds fun I’ll be right over!” Adam explained. Adam had dark brown hair, he and Kara had known each other since birth. He wore casual clothing and secretly had a major crush on Kara.
When Adam arrived Kara took his hand and told him they were going for a walk. “Umm, okay,” Adam said. Kara asked, “So did you see that article about the world ending? Looks pretty official doesn’t it?”
“Nah, dad and I don’t believe that kind of lies,” Adam explained.
“Oh, really?” asked Kara.
“Really,” answered Adam.
Kara explained her dad’s dramatic explanation and the both of them sat on the swings and laughed. Adam walked Kara home in the dark, and they said their goodbyes.
The next morning Kara rolled out of bed at 6 a.m. to get ready for what was supposedly her last day of school. The whole family had a formal breakfast and Kara’s dad, mom, and siblings dropped her off at Hemingway Middle School.
Kara walked into the gray building next to her close friends Macy and Adam. They talked about their evenings and shared their dreams in detail with each other.
When Kara arrived at first hour of the school day all her class could talk about was the world coming to an end when the Earth quaked. Kids screamed and ducked down underneath their desks. The door flew open and the ceiling began to cave in. The sky turned dark as night and Kara prayed.
Kara was stuck under her desk waiting for the world to end. Everyone in her classroom was silent and the oxygen level was decreasing. It had been over an hour, Kara figured if the world was going to end then she might as well get up and finish her life as well as she could. Kara crawled out from beneath her desk and look around. Lifeless kids lay all around her. A tear dripped from Kara’s blue eyes and she walked quietly over to her teacher, Mrs. Carson’s des
desk. There she lay, lifeless with no heartbeat and her soul was lifted from her body. Kara prayed. She ran out of her classroom only to find many other lifeless bodies lying in the hallways when she heard footsteps running. She chased the sound and saw Adam’s long hair flip while he was running. “Adam!” Kara screamed, “You’re alright!”
Kara ran to Adam and wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders. Adam pet Kara’s head and whispered in her ear, “it’s going to be alright. I’m here for you.” Kara could no longer hold back the heavy tears that drown her eyes. She yelped and let her tears run wild.
“We need to go to the elementary and the day care and find the kids,” Kara cried. Adam took Kara’s hand and they rushed out of the building.

Voting Question: did my girlfriend use me?
Well i've been out of town for about 4 weeks now seeing my girlfriend and she basically told me she just wants to be friends since I leave tomorrow claiming it will hurt less.
To sum this up, my relationship started online in a chat room and she fell in love with me the day we met. I had promised to see her several times and each time it fell through, the final straw was when I promised to see her early September and I had to bail out my parents because their home was being foreclosed.
She was upset and stopped saying that she loved me and was acting distant throughout september, she would get upset and say it would hurt less if we were friends and asking me to be her friend. I told her I had the money and was going to come out to see her but she kept saying "do what you want" like she didn't want me anymore.
I went to sell my handgun and got enough cash to finally see her and she was acting like she didn't want to see me and I remember the next morning the police were at my door because I hadn't slept in 7 days and neighbors said I was acting suicidal so I was committed in florida for 72 hours in psych ward/crisis center.
She was really upset and didn't know why I was in there, and I was taken to EMS because I was complaining of kidney pain.
When I got out, she said she just wanted to be friends and wanted me to get better first but was talking about another guy already, when I asked her, she said they were just friends but had pictures on their profiles saying "My sweetheart" with them holding each other.
I was finally able to get enough money to fly to Chicago when my mother sold the house and flew out there on October 31st which I was originally just coming as her friend. I stayed at the hilton hotel and she didn't see me the first day but came early in the morning the 2nd day and couldn't keep her hands off me. She was happy and I was happy, ordered breakfast, and laid in bed, everything was great.
The whole week went well except that she complained that I flinched when she was on top of me a number of times.
We were supposed to go to a pow wow downtown with her friend meeting us from Indiana (my gf is full blooded Apache Native American)and that went well, I covered myself, my gf and her friend and I bought them stuff there. Everything went well.
By the 2nd week, things were also well but it was the 3rd week I was supposed to leave (I booked a 3 week trip with expedia that included the round air flight) she was distant because she didn't want me to leave and was upset saying she just wanted to be friends with me when I left so it wouldn't hurt as much. She was still talking to the friend of hers who just got out of prison and some of her friends were telling me she was dating him… I also thought it was strange because she didn't want her friends to know we were dating.
I bought her a new laptop because her computer wasn't working and helped her with other stuff. By the 3rd week, I decided to extend my stay for her and stay another full week and booked another hotel that wasn't as nice as the hilton but still a 2 star hotel though the room was smaller and not as nice of a tv.
She came over few times, I went with her to see her grandpa at the rehabilitation center for the elderly and she said that they didn't allow visitors or something so I had to wait in the lobby (so I never met her grandpa), she also wouldn't tell me where she lived which I thought was strange (living with her ex husband). Also for thanksgiving, I was helping her get stuff for her bathroom to fix it, I thought she was going to invite me over for thanksgiving but she didn't, it felt like she didn't want her family to know who I was or something. She brought me dinner though later that night and things were fine until I flinched again and she became angry and upset and left.
Today she came over and she said she loved me and called me her husband, and everything was fine until she became silent and upset saying "your going to leave" and saying "what if you don't come back, why can't you stay here" and I kept telling her I was going to come back (as tomorrow is my last day here). She said "you know how many people have told me that?" She said "just be my friend, it will hurt less" and wouldn't say "I love you" and left.
After all of this, I don't know what to think, a close friend of mine is saying that he thinks I was used and that it was strange that she was trying to keep me hidden from her friends and family which she claims was because they were mad at me for being in the psychward and thought I was dangerous and crazy (since I owned guns) but at the same time, why would she try to get me to move here if she didn't want me?
I love her a lot and don't really know what to think at this point.

Resolved Question: Florida vacation - looking for recommendations?
Looking for a safe, quiet clean area in Florida for a vacation for my wife and I. We're both in our 30s, looking at decompressing. We'd be happy with some quaint little city, hopefully with a nice clean beach, local shops and dining. We both like exploring art, foot, etc. We're not high maintenance, so don't need high end. It's hard to find out about the smaller towns, so looking for advice. We both have high stress jobs, so looking for quite and relaxing. Wouldn't mind if it was an hour or two outside of a large city. Bed and breakfast, affordable hotel, etc. are all fine.
Thanks for any help!

Resolved Question: How should I handle a situation to avoid drama in my family?
My husband and I were invited to stay with family back home for a 2nd wedding celebration at my cousins house. We were staying for a week and I had been given a set of rules beforehand. We have always stayed at each others homes and we've even invited them to go to our timeshare for their 1 year anniversary a couple years back. We've always gotten along even when they stayed with us during our wedding weekend with their new baby. The rules were very simple. They have an 18 month old and he gets up between 7:30 am and 9:00 am, naps around noon to 3ish and then goes to bed around 8:30-9:00 pm. We would be sleeping in the basement on an air mattress that we brought and had a 1/2 bath to use in those hours. The rules were that we could not shower during those hours, go upstairs during those hours for food or drink, watch television over the volume of 25 or have our cellphone ringers on. I understood all of this. We arrived and were well aware of all of the rules and had no problem with them, however, I didn't know my cousin was going to be so grouchy and pick at everything I did.
Whenever I had them as guests I always offered my bed, which I did not expect them to do. I give them the guest bathroom and they use it whenever they want, however long they want. I've even put welcome bags in there for them with their own drawers for toiletries, ect. They are welcomed to anything in the fridge at any time. They can use my computer anytime they want. I pretty much cater to them to make sure that their vacation is fun and memorable. I genuinely love to entertain.
When they invited us, they also wanted to throw us this party for family and friends who could not make it to our reception in Florida. We were planning on just having everyone go to dinner but thought that it sounded more personable and relaxed, so we accepted. Everyone was going to pitch in and help out. Needless to say, they did nothing monetary. Sure, they provided their home and we appreciated that but they didn't offer to make a dish or even go in on the keg, which my cousin drank most of. Usually I don't really care about monetary issues but we felt so unwelcomed since day 1.
To make a long story shorter, we had no confrontation with them and they have no clue that we are so disappointed in their behavior. My cousin's wife was great it was my cousin who seemed to have a stick up his butt. We even gave them money for food as asked when we arrived so that we didn't have to each every meal out. Mind you, I always have food for them and never ask for a dime. If they like what we have then they are welcomed to it, if not they can go out and venture out on their own. This has never been an issue because we have taken them out to eat and vise versa.
The main issue here is that after about 4 days or so of my cousin yelling at me or not really yelling but pouting to me about my cellphone making a beep when I went online, my camera making noices when I viewed my pictures or letting the water run too long on a shower that had no handles and needed a wrench to turn the hot water off and making us feel uncomfortable, we decided to leave a day early.
My husband overheard him scolling me the very last morning and we were supposed to leave the next day, since my Aunt and Uncle were coming over for dinner that night. My cousin has also asked my husband when we were leaving tomorrow and they had a birthday party to go to. It seemed like he was rushing us and said we needed to have our showers between 9:00 and noon (4 people) and eat breakfast and lunch to leave before they had to leave for their party. Obviously this made my husband feel rushed to leave and came down to the basement to tell me. I was so ticked off by this time that I said we should just pack the car and leave early saying that we were heading out earlier to give more time to drive and so that my husband can have an extra day to relax at home.
My cousin was surprised but we gave him a hug, thanked him and left. His wife was napping and would be for another 2-3 hours. 3 hours that we couldn't bear to be confined in a basement again. What a way to spend a vacation. I'd also like to add that since not many people helped out with food and such for our party, we payed for the catering of it ourselves which took almost all of our spending money, leaving very little to venture out. We had terrible, rainy, cold weather too so we couldn't really just take walks or go sight seeing.
We left without saying goodbye to his wife or son, who were napping.
My Aunt and Uncle were surprised and called to see if everything was okay. I couldn't be entirely honest with her because I didn't want to seem ungrateful but at the same time I think she knew we were not happy but didn't want to say so. She apologized for her son.
I have always been a gracious host and expect the same in return when others visit. Is this too much to ask? Now I don't know what to sa
My cousin *had also asked my husband when we were leaving tomorrow and they had a birthday party to go to.
Also note that I did take them out to dinner on my birthday and to lunch when it was just me, my cousin's wife and her son while the guys were at Cedar Point.
Please excuse the length. Obviously it all had to be put in there to understand the entirety of the question. Thank you.
PLEASE NOTE: Part of the last sentence was erased. *say. PLEASE HELP. (the imcomplete conclusion).
Thank you Wicked Ways. We have already decided to only stay in a hotel when we visit my home town and family. This way we will never have to tiptoe around on our vacation. We also are not going to invite them to stay with us since my cousin takes over our home the same way when he is here. I love my family and I understand they have children but their is an appropriate way to handle situations and intimidation is not one of them.
TO THE PERSON WHO THINKS WE STAYED WITH THEM FOR A FREE VACATION: Wrong answer. We would have spent less if we stayed in a hotel and just had the family go out to dinner. It wasn't about getting something FREE, it was about spending our vacation with family. The question wasn't can you please judge me, it was what should I do to avoid drama.
TO GARNET GLITTER: Funny that you mentioned the word dungeon. That's what my husband says when he refers to the vacation in the basement. It made me laugh a little. Thank you for doing so. I am really torn and love my cousin, whether he was an a** or not.
